I'm a dork so I looked up the meaning of the term "woot" :P I've noticed some of you use it and I figured it just meant "yeah!" or "sweet!" or "woohoo!" but wasn't sure. According to Wiki, it's a term "used to express happiness, excitement or joy, most often expressed via the Internet." AND it was among the list of Merriam-Webster's Words of the Year for 2007! LOL!

So do you guys use this word in conversation, or is it strictly an online thing? I've never heard anyone say "Woot, woot Nikki! What's up!!?"

It stemmed from old school PC gAmErZ I think, who used it as 'w00t', and it meant 'we owned the other team'. Same as interweb 1337 or 'leet' speak comes from people finding other ways to write 'Elite', or HaxorZ, or n00b, or pWNED! I love wikipedia!

As a non native speaker I couldn't tell you if it's more common in written or spoken language. But if it is mostly used in written language as the definition you've found seems to point out, then it's really interesting (to me at least!) because word creation usually occurs in spoken language and the new creations require highly frequent use before they can be used in written language.

It's like the word "cheers" in scotland. They use cheers for everything. Really. XD I was like... "Oh my god! Why are they saying "cheers" to me instead "bye"?" XD

But, by the way *_*
I kinda like the word "woot" sounds... Crazy! XD

Hmmm...WooT it is a very interesting word. I think I'm going to start to use it in speech and see what happens, LOL! Can anyone think of any other words "created" on the Internet? Not including the abbreviations like "lol" or "brb."
