lol, I don't think Fran really wants to buy a gun and shoot everyone. He probably wrote those lyrics because sometimes you get so fed up you just feel like you want to. So yeah...I would say it's metaphoric. |

Yeah I am pretty positive it's metaphorical. I think we would have heard if Fran had shot everything, everyone. |

Okay, okay. I realize that it may have been a stupid question.. but it was just a bit shocking.. being that it's the only song that has that sort of reference.
And I think that if you get so fed up that you want to harm other people.. maybe you should consider getting some help.
Just my two cents. |

I think since as you said it's one reference in one song it can be taken more as a passing thought and not a fixation.
We all have dark thoughts but it's only worrisome when you obsess and seriously consider acting upon it.
When I first heard this song I thought of the Beatles' song "Run For Your Life" which is pretty dark. ("Well I'd rather see you dead, little girl/Than to be with another man")

I thought of Coldplay's A Rush of Blood... which is very similar lyrically:
"I'm going to buy a gun and start a war
If you can tell me something worth fighting for "
It's more defeatist than angry though. |

I think it's COMPLETELY literal and should be taken very very seriously. |

Funny you should mention that song! I ALWAYS thought Coldplay copied Travis' "Last Train" with the whole vibe of the song "Rush of Blood." Their album came out a year after The Invisible Band. |
