Typing to Reach You Posted Sat 15 Dec, 2007 12:33 AM |
------------------------
Perhaps you guys could help me with the planning stage. This is a b-side showdown, and so we need to establish a precise definition of what a b-side actually is. I feel they should be the tracks released alongside Travis singles - so, only released original b-sides and covers, not live unrecorded covers, and not hidden tracks. Would that be ok? The only unfortunate thing with this is that I didn't include Perfect Heaven Space in the last song showdown, 'cos it didn't quite seem an 'a-side' either. And 12th Memory too. In hindsight I probably should have added 'em. Maybe we should just save them for the next 'regular' showdown.
There are odd tracks that technically fit into this definition but that, personally, I don't feel should go in. These are live or alternative versions of a-side tracks, such as Driftwood live (on Turn single). Would people be ok with these not going in?
Edit: Will now be starting the Showdown after Christmas, the theory being that more people will be available to participate. Keep tuned peeps! |

Yay! Love this game. (Even though it's SO hard to choose). Didn't "Writing To Reach You" win for the album track showdown?

Um, I think so... *checks records*... yes it did. :p It always does, I think it's won all of them lol. But whenever a new album comes out it's always good to see if new songs can knock it off the top spot.
It'd be a bit worrying if it won the b-side showdown mind. xD |

Ooooh, excellent! I love your showdowns, you do a lot of work! Have you done more showdown artwork this time?
Your rules sound good, no complaints there. Roll on Monday :D

If you allowed the remix it might be in with a chance! Unfortunately it would be against the rules, though. |

Hmm not so big on the idea of putting the Writing to Reach You remix in. After Writing to Reach You won the album showdown, it'd be a little unimaginative if the remix won the b-side one, lol.
Btw, yeah I know it's Monday today, and the showdown isn't up. :p That's partially with the site being down, but I'm also wondering whether it'd be a good time so close to Christmas? I mean, I like to give at least one day (preferably more) between each round to give room for votes...but when it runs into Christmas day etc I don't imagine it'd get much of a response? S'up to you guys.
Here's the list of contenders. 67 all together.

Ditto.
On the subject of starting it now, I think it might be good after Christmas, as a New Year treat. I think you should only do a couple of rounds a week to let lots of people vote - it makes it more representative cos some people will miss it otherwise.
Thanks again for doing it! |

Yeah I agree with you. It's probably most practical for me after Christmas anyways - I've got to get my laptop repaired to get rid of this damn pink line on the monitor. :p
And thanks for your support. |

Ooh, is your laptop bringing out it's feminine side? ;)
I was thinking a lyrics showdown would be interesting (original anyway!). It wouldn't have the same unbiased start though, unless we put all the Travis lyrics ever into a big vat and pulled them out one at a time :P |

lol, don't blame you! It can be the first unofficial showdown. Maybe I'll think of another name so I don't embarass you when it goes very wrong! ;) |

Sounds like a great idea...but how would it work? That would be so hard to do. Unless you just did the chorus of each album track or something like that. But that doesn't really make all that much sense as some of the best lyrics are in the verses of many Travis songs. Unless you wanna call it a Travis chorus showdown...I don't know! :P
Oh, Luke...are you putting the B-sides and covers together, or making two separate showdows? |

My vote goes to "City In The Rain" ... what an amazing song. It really should be on "Good Feeling" !! |

I would have to choose lyrics to start off with, which would be contentious, and against the showdown's fairness policy!
It could be a song showdown for the song with best lyrics, I suppose. That would be a huge showdown! Let me know if there's any way it might work! |
