I am new to the flock. First gig last Friday in Las Vegas,
and the band blew me away. I'm a bit older than most of you, but when I turned 50 in June I did get to see the Beatles LOVE show in Vegas, unlike poor Fran who had to go see a magician who was "a bit younger in his photos!" Anyway iTunes really helped me get into Travis before and after the show. Plus I got 2 bonus tracks off the latest album- "Sailing Away" is one of Fran's prettiest melodies. The Live iTunes Festival EP ended up being a fine souvenir of my concert experience (though I wish they'd included Fran's touching intro to "My Eyes" which really cooks live.) Finally, I was able to cherry pick the Lennon tribute "Gimme Some Truth" and the fun soundtrack tune "Know Nothing" which sounds like a cross between The Beatles and Matthew Sweet!
All in all, I'd love to have the actual CDs but it's nice to wake up and say "I think I'll purchase some more Travis today." |

which I did. I found Joni Mitchell's "River" which Fran sings so well. Nice addition to my holiday collection. But no "Lovely Rita!" (one of my fave Beatle tunes) |

Hi there, welcome to the board!
Yeah, that's a good feeling - it's why I didn't get the b-sides for ages and I still haven't listened to them all, I know there's more to be discovered.
This is My Eyes performed in Japan over the summer. It has a better introduction :)
Thanks to themanwho (the post above) for all the bootleg recordings (or collection of)! |

Well Travis and the fans certainly make me wish I could be at the Dec. 30 Glasgow gig. I've always wanted to see Hadrian's Wall and take in a Celtic match. I saw the movie "Local Hero" many years ago (one of my favorites with the Mark Knopfler soundtrack) and a "Shot At Glory" (more Knopfler) and I realized I have to go to Scotland. Long live Big Country and Aztec Camera! |

Hi, welcome to Travisland. :)
Buying Travis songs a bit at a time is quite a cool idea. Stretches out the excitement factor. :p
The only problem is you miss out on the whole atmospheric package some of the albums give you. Listening to The Man Who from start to end is pretty magical. |

Well I did buy the entire "Boy With No Name" album with the bonus tracks amd I was glad I did. At the Vegas show I only knew the new songs! That's why the SINGLES album is such a good intro to Travis for a newbie like me. And the live iTunes stuff makes we want to go back to Las Vegas and do the Travis show all over again. iTunes has its critics but the McCartney "Memory" iTunes album also had bonus tracks - "Why So Blue?" is one of Macca's best! So you are preaching to the converted here! I grew up with albums and I can't wait to get all the other Travis LPs. But my point was iTunes allowed me to buy what I needed to fall in love with this band. Nothing is better than a killer live show. It makes me a fan for life! Oh yeah, Merry Christmas to the Travis clan! |
