Has anyone else seen this movie? Downfall is one of the best movies ever. I've seen it before, and when it was on TV the other night, I recorded it and I've just started watching it again.

It's absolutely brilliant. Some people have critised it for glorifying Hitler because it shows a human side to him. However, I think it makes the whole thing even more creepy that Hitler wasn't just a monster and nothing else :oS

I have to admit that I haven't watched it :|
But I will...

(Though I really really don't like Alexandra Maria Lara's acting...)

I remember watching this when it first came out and not liking it at all. I especially loathed the scene where you see a man shooting himself through the mouth, we really didn't need to see that.. It's been a while since I saw it though, and maybe I'd think different of it now.

I think she's ok, but Bruno Ganz is overwhelming. The real Traudl Junge speaking at the beginning and end is also quite impressive :o)

I suppose it's just to give a somewhat realistic picture of what it was like in Berlin in those last days of WWII. I even think that it was worse in reality cos there's only so much violence an audience will accept before thinking that it's unrealistic. In the film, you see the secretary walk away with a kid. In real life, she was raped several times by russian soldiers, and was held captive for a year before returning home.

I guess I like films that remind us how brutal reality can be. A bit like Schindlers List which really impressed me as well.
