"ska'd for life" by horace panter, recounting his years as the bass player with ska supremos The Specials, looks like a great read. i've yet to start it but i'm sure it'll be aces. |

yeah i was going to get it (i believe the title is "Paula Spencer") but for some reason i didn't. i'm sure it'd be a great read.
doyle is an awesome writer but he's definitely let the side down as of late with his previous novel, "play that thing" (the sequel to "a star called henry")
i took one look at the back cover of "play that thing", saw that louis armstrong was involved and put it back on the shelf.
i HATE it when authors put real historical figures into fictional situations. doyle got a pass with "a star called henry" because the "real" characters would be little known outside of ireland, louis armstrong et al is a different matter. |

yep that's the title. Actually some reviews weren't that good. maybe authors should refrain from writing sequels. I really really love 'a star called Henry', an amazing book but maybe a sequel would spoil it.
Louis Armstrong ?? what the heck ?! |

Brown's Requiem - James Ellroy (the guy who wrote The Black Daliha and LA Confidential)
a very gritty and no nonsense thriller, very good.

I've just read Winter in Madrid by CJ Sansom. Ooh and keeping on the Spanish theme, The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon is good too! |
