Pfft. Well if we're gonna have it that way, we're missing out an "England", "Wales" and "Northern Ireland" as well. |

Agreed, The English, Welsh and Northern Irish have just as much of a right to be proud of their heritage and nationlity too. |

Some people, myself included, don't consider themselves to be British. No disrespect to those that do, it's just that I don't and would like the option to be available. |

Why? Is it politics? Or is it understandably because you don't want to associate yourself with the Welsh?

I'm English but live in Wales and do generally refer to myself as British. I get that all the 'nations' of the UK like do have their own sense of national pride. I just don't get why. All seems a bit petty and elitist. |

Have to admit, it's strange why there never seem to be any Welsh boardies. I guess they're all over on the Charlotte Church forum or summit, lol. |

haha no, I can't really explain it, I've always seen British as meaning English, even tho' that is not the definition of the word, that is what it means to me and is seen as by a lot of others, especially other nations. And I'm not English, I'm Scottish and would like for others to make the same distinction. Again no disrespect to anyone who considers themselves British. It's just not how I feel. |

It's not petty or elitist, The country of Scotland was signed into the union against the wishes of most of the population at the time, a sentiment that I end to agree with. I don't think it's elitist because I will respect the wishes of any other person to follow his or her nationality in hopefully a cool and grooy way, It's once you start using nationalities as weapons i.e. racism and what have you that it starts to become elitist. |
