So I got an offer to do my pre reg year with Boots in Northallerton after I finish my pharmacy degree. I thought, well it's only a year I'd be stuck there so ok, but then I read the small print. If after qualifying as a pharmacist I don't then stay in the area and work full time for them as a pharmacist I have to pay £5,000! It's like being in the sodding army!

Why are they allowed to do this?!!?

Oh, and Dougie was sighted buying 2lbs of carrots the other day by my friend. Good to know he's keeping his vitamin C levels up. [/irrelevance]

Probably done to cover training costs. Alot of professional bodies do this if a year of work is part of gaining a professional qualification.
Lawers have got away with this for years.

I guess that means they don't get government compensation for training us. In a way you could see why it would work for lawyers, but there's a shortage of pharmacists, so they shouldn't be mean to us!

Yup most places I've worked for the last few years offer all sorts of training incentives for further education, but if you leave the company within a number of years you have to pay them back the costs.

Lawyers in Ireland get a sh!t wage while they are training, basic apprentice wage, Barristers don't get paid at all while they train (devil, apt eh??). Mind you the majority of them get it all paid for by Daddy so fuck 'em!!!!

They bought me perfume so the staff aren't nasty, just the bigshot manager types.
