A friend of mine is in a band and he wants to do a concert dedicated to Travis but him and the band members are haveing trouble deciding what songs to play.
They definetely want:
WDIAROM
Writing to Reach you
Pipe Dreams
The Cage
Somewhere Else
As You Are
More Than Us
but they need another 5, so any suggestions would be great |

You might wanna include Sing and Side as well. Not my personal faves but they were both huge hits.
Awesome that they def wanted to do The Cage, it's one of my top 3 Travis songs :) |

Good Feeling - most of the songs you have down are slower, mellower, so this would be that little bit of edge?
Driftwood - just a great song :D
Side - the intro always gets people going
How Many Hearts - if one of your bandmates can play the piano that is
Indefinitely
She's So Strange
I just put 6 because I don't know the limitations of your band :) Goodluck! Could you record some of your set and let us hear it? I wish bands near me did Travis tributes :(

Sorry to sound cynical, but is this going to be a ticketed gig for the public? Can't see a market for it, to be honest.
I realise that sounds harsh, and I do apologise. However, personally, I'd see Travis themselves over and over, but would not want to go to a Travis tribute gig. Outside of the Travis fan base, who else might pay to see this?
I sing in a covers band- for fun, and also have a favourite covers band- professional- that I see regularly, and can say from experience that Travis material simply doesn't translate well into that genre of performance.
My band has tried to work WDIAROM into our set, being the most crowd friendly song by Travis, but it just doesn't work. The other covers band that I see has tried it, but has taken it out of their set too.
Apologies again, it's just my opinion. I do wish your friend's band well, and would be glad to be proven wrong!

It's not a big concert. It's just at a club not too far away from where I live, but it's important to them because they're well known around the area. They know WDIAROM is hard to get right if you're not the real Travis, but they've been practicing since they got together nearly 2 years ago and they want people to know that they can play it, even if it doesn't sound the best. |

It's not how WDIAROM is played, it's how it's received by the audience- that was my point. I had already assumed they could play it well!!! :)
You know the band and your local area's music interest far better than I do, obviously. It was, for me, just a question of crowd pleasing. If there's demand for a Travis tribute, go for it! |

that's what i meant. they've practiced it so that they could get the same reaction to it as the real Travis would get. and it means so much to them cos it's their favourite song ever and it was also a big hit when it first came out. |
