First song to pop into my head: Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah

Any other songs where the cover is better than the original? I know it's a matter of taste, but I'm curious anyway...

Elbow - One Thing (Amerie)
Arctic Monkeys - Baby, I'm Yours (Barbara Lewis)
Arctic Monkeys - Love Machine (Girls Aloud)
Your Love Is King - Will Young (Sade)
Franz Ferdinand - What You Waiting For? (Gwen Stefani)
Jeff Buckley - Kick Out The Jams (The MC5)

More to come probably...

Travis - Hit Me Baby One More Time (obviously!)
Alanis Morisette - My Humps

The last one just goes to show that Alanis Morisette could sing from a phone book and make it sound soulful.

I hated that cover, I had no idea whether she was being sincere or ironic or sarcastic or what.

I just thought it was depressing. I'd much rather listen to the original. Not that thats brilliant either.

I like it... I don't like original, and the cover points out just how stupid the lyrics are. I think she just did for the fun of it.

Was Sinead O'Connor's version not a cover from a Prince song in the first place?
