It is not an up-to-date book, but I strongly recommend you to read "Tale of Two Cities" by Dickens,if you haven't already.

Uhm... I really liked Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami (here I go again), if you like surreal and querky books it's perfect.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

I really should get around to reading more than the first line hehe

If you like crime novels :
'The Power of The Dog' Don Winslow

Had me absolutely gripped all the way through, can't recommend it enough. Crying out for a film adaptation at some point too, although I'd be quite happy just reading the book again

I will also recommend Lord Of The Flies, just reading it myself, plus there's the film.

'Saturday Night, Sunday Morning' by Alan Sillitoe. You might have seen the film with Albert Finney in. Had to read the book for the Masculinities module at uni and i really enjoyed it. Typical hard-guy/womaniser in the 1950s with lots of humour.

Oh nooooooo!
I think, if you read it you have to be a woman to get through from front-cover to back-cover. And you have to be...err ...not like me ;)... to love it in the end ;)
