Sorry if this is old news, but at least 2 people told me that they didn't know this, so hopefully this is new to at least someone.
I have ordered the special edition vinyl but hadn't ordered the actual Fran solo album yet, so I went to amazon yesterday to do it. Upon searching for "Fran Healy" it came up as being mentioned in an excerpt from a book. Upon closer inspection, the book is called Love is the Higher Law. It is about the lives of 3 young people in New York after 9/11. In a chapter called "Turn" they talk about going to a Travis concert at Radio City Music Hall the week after 9/11 (looking at the tour archive tells me there was one almost a month later) and the mixed emotions of such a happy and moving concert after such a horrible event. It's quite moving and I'm sure something that all Travis fans would more than understand.
Anywho, you can read an excerpt by going to http://www.amazon.ca/Love-Higher-Law-David-Levithan/dp/0375834699/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1284816900&sr=8-5#noop and clicking "search inside this book" for either Fran or Travis. Turn starts on page 81
Although, it does say Happy is a cover! |

It wouldn't let me see those pages.
My first Travis show was in Oct. 2001 and I can't remember all that Fran said about the whole 9/11 thing but I do recall him saying along the lines of the only thing that was to going to conquer this beast was us all of us staying connected and acting out of love not hate.
That concert was definitely a breath of fresh air after all of the events of the previous month. |

Travis are also mentioned (along with a lot of other pop culture references) in Boyracers by the amazingly talented Alan Bissett.
