So, Obama.
I must admit, I'm... a bit (or more like: VERY) confused.
I was convinced he would just be one of the 200 nominees who wouldn't get the prize... erm...
since when do you get such a prestigious prize for "good intentions"?
Apparently he was nominated for the prize one day after his inauguration? ... (and I don't even want to start talking about Iraq and Afghanistan)...
So, what the heck was going on in the Nobel Prize Committee's heads? Is there anybody out there who actually understands and supports the decision?
(I do like Obama, but the NOBEL PEACE PRIZE??... my oh my...) |

I agree with you on all points .
I am optimistic that eventually they will be seen to have made a good decision over time.
But it is extremely premature and doesnt do the award itself any favours. |

I guess it's supposed to encourage him, but as much as I like the man, I don't think it was the right choice. Give the man a chance to actually do something before awarding him! |

I completely agree. Especially considering that there are tons of people who have been fighting for peace for so many years and that really deserve the award... |

It's ridiculous and they lost all of their credibility. |

this night, I came to the conclusion that they only gave him the prize because the Bush era is finally over.
But they must have known, surely, that a prize like this at this point won't do him any good??? so why the heck... I mean, it's like the committee has lost any sense of reality... like they joined the celebrations on Obama's victory last year, got swept away by the joy and enthusiasm of everyone - and still haven't packed away the party decorations while the rest of the world went back to work...
[German articles now compare Obama to Willy Brandt, a German chancellor who got the Nobel Peace Prize in his second year in office, I think (1971). (I also think he's the only German who's ever received the prize...) Brandt received it for his good intentions and symbolism, too... back then the decision was criticised everywhere, but today Brandt is kind of an icon in German politics...]
