Yesterday Don and I went to see that rock art poster movie that Ric is in. American Artifact: The Rise of American Rock Poster Art
I have to say the movie was actually very interesting. I have a new insight into a world I knew nothing about. I feel like I can appreciate the posters a little more now after learning about the history and purpose, etc, and how the rules of traditional posters don't apply. The "D" was represented.
There is like a whole sub-culture of these rock poster people. When I first got there, I felt a bit like a square peg among all these long-haired, tattooed ex-hippie and/or ex-punk rocker people. However, Ric had sent me a couple posters to get signed for him and when I pulled them out, people came over to look and ooohed and ahhhhed over them and I felt almost cool.
(But then they started asking me all kinds of questions that I couldn't answer and I went back to squaresville, but there was a moment.)
There was also an exhibit of rock star memorabilia including cars and guitars. Ricky Nelson had a cool car, a Ford roadster, June bug green. Janis Joplin's had the best paint job, though.
All in all, it was an enjoyable evening, and if you get a chance to see the movie, do so. DVD coming out in November. |

Great!! Ric at the movies, how cool is that? I saw the trailer sometime ago, it looks like a very interesting film.
I loved that you became cool for a moment when you pulled the posters out. |
