Big mistake for many reasons, in my book. I never even heard of the Willis Group and I already dislike them because of this. Boooooo to the Willis Group!
What you talkin' bout, Willis? Sears Tower renamed
(For those who don't catch the cultural reference of this headline, there was a show on when I was a kid called Diff'rent Strokes. A catch phrase on that show was when Arnold said to his older brother, "What you talkin' 'bout Willis?" |

I used that phrase sometime ago and my 17 year old brother corrected me: "it's not "Willis"! It's "Willy", you know, the dad from Alf!". He was so cute :oP. It did make me feel old, even though that show is before my time. |

1. Chicago tradition. Not to mention the Sears Roebuck tradition, which goes waaaaay back. It's a name everyone instantly recognizes.
2. Tourism. It's a popular landmark. Think of all the maps that have to be changed and people who will be coming to see the Sears tower and then go, "Huh??"
3. A company from another country moves in and takes over a city's biggest landmark and renames it. Doesn't exactly ingratiate themselves with the people. I don't even live in Chicago and I feel quite bitter about it. Once again, BOOOOOOOOO to the Willis Group. |

A few years ago they changed the name of the stadium in Toronto from Skydome to Rogers Centre. WHA?
I refuse to call it that. If Roger's bought it, why didnt they just make it the Roger's Skydome? |

All these corporate names that don't mean diddly. (Yes, I realize Sears is a corporate name, but it's an old corporate name from the catalog days of yore. It has a history.)
Like when they built a new Tiger Stadium and it became Comerica Park and they tried to make it cool and call it the Copa. Yeah. I still call it "the new Tiger Stadium." |

They changed the name of the Delta Center here where the Utah Jazz play, to Energy Solutions Arena. Lame. Really, who wants to say that mouthful? |

I really don't know why they would waste a bunch of money because everyone is still going to call it Sears Tower. |
