You know how much I keep going on about this guy so...

John Martyn Live in Dublin from '87 is on RTE1 now.

*edit* Solid Air was written for Nick Drake, I never knew that.

I never heard anything of him before - I think.

But I heard James Morrison singing "May you never" - it was beautiful.

I just listened to Morrison's version on Youtube... Hmm not impressed to be honest but it's not the easiest song to cover.

Morrison also does not help his case by calling him an English guy at the start, He was Scots, he may have lived the last few years in Kilkenny, Ireland but he was Scots through and through.

Well I skipped the whole talking part...but Ireland is not England either...right? So wrong in both ways...

As I said I don't really know John Martyn...

is there anything you can commend for a first-time-listener? or most famouse songs (maybe I recognise them from the radio)

At least the song, J.Morrison coverd sounded nice to me :)

There is absolutely tons of stuff out there and pretty much all of it is good, a starting point may be Serendipity - an Introduction to John Martyn it's a sorta greatest hits compilation thingy. It's also quite cheap in most record stores...

After that I'd check out, Solid Air(1973) & One World (1977) which are my two favourite albums they are sorta "chill out indie" stuff. And still sound fresh even by todays standards
