aaaah Passau.
thats where you can study and not celebrate. isnt it?think Passau is that place in which you cant get anywhere at night.. or is that a rumor? or do i confound..?

i think i met some people who study there aswell..

lalala..

errr. I'M SORRY??? ;p
Passau is one of the most student-y towns, as it's very small - 40.000 inhabitants, ca. 12.000 of them students - most students live in the inner city so we have all kinds of bars and cafés, most of them in nice old buildings. a veeery charming town.

what's NOT so charming is the number of (aaaarrrgh!) law-students here. and business studies people. they're horrible in Passau, very exclusive, very "anti-humanities/arts" etc. And you cannot study natural sciences at the University of Passau, because its profile is completely focussed on the humanities, law and business. my uni was the FIRST one to see that the globalising world will need cultural experts and people who do not only speak a language but know the habits and culture that come along with it, too. ;) (you cannot imagine HOW MUCH goes wrong just because Germans write emails differently than Brits - or because some airline has black-and-white plates on intercontinental flights ;D)

ok, and we do not get great bands to play here - BUT the concerts in Passau are always something special. I once saw Nova International (know them? German band) in the smallest pub I've ever been to. And soon Anajo (also german band) will play in an old cinema that's now used for theatre performances and gigs.
Hah.

You're from Berlin?

But back to my question (we can discuss this in your "Germans" thread!):

GLASGOW STUFF, ANYONE? :)

HAHA. just changes thread.

okay, sorry. then i really confound it ^^

well dont know Nova International, maybe the name.. but dont know.
But i know Anajo. well never seen them but know them. a friend of mine is a friend of the band and their biggest fan, i think.

know that?

the whole style of conducting business is different, there are so many things that go wrong: e.g. a German grows up to say and write what they want and think. we love dates and deadlines ;). And the word "must" and so on. But in other countries, that's just seen as very very rude. An English friend of mine said she just couldn't write German-style emails. And when you're too polite with Germans, they won't do anyting ;)

You can't count me in, as I've only lived there for a bit years ago and my language skills aren't anywhere near strong enough to allow me to read Süddeutsche Zeitung.

well thats a point. that culture stuff. its the same with talking with different nations. in some nations everyone feels embarassed if its silent sometimes. in other nations its the opposite and they hate it if someones talking the whole time..
