erm, okay, I'm sorry about having to ask here (at the moment I'm asking everyone the same questions, so you're not my only "victims" ;) )

err. yes.

the question:

Does someone have old - or more recent - brochures/leaflets/pictures/... that advertise "Glasgow" as a city? I'm looking for anything and everything published by the city council (or official tourism agencies) at the moment. Old stuff would be great, too.

well, that's exactly what I thought and did: I wrote to the city council, tourism agencies etc, but all I got was one download (it'll be helpful but it's just not enough) and the offer to get written answers to my questions. none of them had brochures as documents or even for shipping available (or so they said).
it's very strange...

I cannot use random internet stuff, I have to stick to more or less official info, and I'm not allowed to use Wikipedia at all :( (need the stuff for my dissertation.) I'm just starting to write an "outline" and if there's no official info on Glasgow's publicity campaigns available, I'll have to change the topic again and just write about movies (at the moment, I'm planning to write it about "glasgow's image in movies vs. publicity campaigns vs. reality". sth like that. still thinking. but I'll need the campaign infos anyway to do it this way).

yepp, I'm asking the same questions on travel-forums, too. basically everyone I meet gets to hear this ;D
I'm studying... well, the "new" B.A. title of the course is "International Cultural and Business Studies", but I'm still on the old 5-year-programme, in English it'd be "Languages, Business and Cultural Studies" - with an emphasis on English speaking countries. (auf Deutsch "Kulturwirtschaft"/"Sprachen, Wirtschafts- und Kulturraumstudien", in Passau ;) )

errr. I'M SORRY??? ;p
Passau is one of the most student-y towns, as it's very small - 40.000 inhabitants, ca. 12.000 of them students - most students live in the inner city so we have all kinds of bars and cafés, most of them in nice old buildings. a veeery charming town.

what's NOT so charming is the number of (aaaarrrgh!) law-students here. and business studies people. they're horrible in Passau, very exclusive, very "anti-humanities/arts" etc. And you cannot study natural sciences at the University of Passau, because its profile is completely focussed on the humanities, law and business. my uni was the FIRST one to see that the globalising world will need cultural experts and people who do not only speak a language but know the habits and culture that come along with it, too. ;) (you cannot imagine HOW MUCH goes wrong just because Germans write emails differently than Brits - or because some airline has black-and-white plates on intercontinental flights ;D)

ok, and we do not get great bands to play here - BUT the concerts in Passau are always something special. I once saw Nova International (know them? German band) in the smallest pub I've ever been to. And soon Anajo (also german band) will play in an old cinema that's now used for theatre performances and gigs.
Hah.

You're from Berlin?

But back to my question (we can discuss this in your "Germans" thread!):

GLASGOW STUFF, ANYONE? :)

I know, they wrote they can answer my questions in writing but they said they don't have any brochures or leaflets and gave me the address of the marketing agency (who sent me a great outline of their latest campaign).

Well, I need some brochures as "primary sources" for my project - anything related with "City of Glasgow" publicity campaigns. For example brochures that bear the old "Glasgow's miles better" slogan, or the new "Scotland with Style" one. I just need some stuff to prove that the slogans/campaigns really exist(ed), and that they really are/were written as I describe them. I think for the newer one, there are also posters and bus-ads etc, pictures of these things would also help, but I can't use too many online-resources. I really hope I can find some material soon, because I can only start writing when I'm more or less sure that my (and my professor's) guesswork is right.

Maybe I should just look for some money and book a flight to Glasgow. Hm.

ooh, thanks, I totally forgot the embassy! :)
I wrote to the British Council, and I guess the Embassy will give me the address of the Brit.Council again because they're doing the "cultural" work...
But I'll try anyway! Thanks :)
