I'd go with the OTJS.Actually,I kinda don't like TBWNN THAT much when compared with the rest of the albums.Dunno why,it was an OK for me when it first came out but now,I just don't listen to it as often as I listen to the rest of the stuff. Anyways,my vote goes for OTJS :) |

Ode to J. smith is my favorite album so I have to go with that, but i do love the Boy with no Name. it's a nice album with good melody. |

As a cohesive album that tells a story, I like Ode To J. Smith more, but The Boy With No Name has a lot of great songs on it. |

It's hard to compare, they are very different.
I'd say OTJS, but TBWNN was great too. |

These two albums are in 2 different directions and it's hard to say which one I prefer. Both have done a great job. |

The Boy With No Name for me. OTJS was good, but I would put most Travis albums above it, except for Good Feeling. |

I'd actually say completely the opposite of that lol
If I was to do a graph, TBWNN would look like:
. ..
. .... ..
and OTJS would be
.. . .
.
.
.. ..
if you see what I mean. All over the place.
But....Although TBWNN is pretyty much all alright, there is absolutely nothing on that album that comes near Chinese Blues or Before You Were Young. The best of OTJS has the Travis 'magic dust' sprinkled all over it which I've personally missed since The Invisible Band. So even if I think Long Way Down and Get Up are pretty ropy, it gets my vote. |

I think it's almost impossible to compare Travis-albums because everyone has different taste and Travis is a band with great variation and their albums/songs are totally different storys. I fell in love with Travis when I heard Side on the radio... so my first album was The Invisible Band and that album will always be the perfect record for me.
As I have written in another thread, I think that TBWNN has a difficult second half with some songs that perhaps would do better as b-sides.
Personally I prefer the "cleaner" sound on TBWNN, but Ode is a more compact and complete record with rockier vibes. If you could mix the two albums then it would be the perfect album! ;)
1. Chinese Blues
2. Eyes Wide Open
3. J. Smith
4. Selfish Jean
5. Last Words
6. Big Chair
7. Something Anything
8. My Eyes
9. Quite Free
10. Closer
11. Song To Self
12. 3 Times And You Lose
13. Before You Were Young
Well that would make the album too long for my taste so WHATEVER! |

The Boy is wonderful. Really is. :) But I think Ode is on another level. So, my vote goes to Ode To J Smith. One of my favourite albums of the year. :) |
