Anybody watch House last night? I thought it was a superb episode, very witty. And Wilson is back, yessssss!
The writers of that show must be very clever. I mean, I know there's a formula to each episdoe (2 or 3 mis-diagnoses before they figure it out) but the sarcastic one-liners are so brilliant.

I don't want to start another thread, but do you think when people put political signs on their lawn, it can create enemies of potential friends? I don't like it. I don't want to know who my neighbors are voting for. That's why we have SECRET ballots. I hate when I see next door neighbors with opposing sings. It makes me uncomfortable. |

I watched part of House, which i love and I too am glad Wilson is back! But i was flipping back and forth between election coverage...which leads me to your next topic...
I dont live on a main street so we are often not asked to put a sign up. I did last year for the provincial election bc my mom knew a person running in my riding for MPP (Member of Provincial Parliament). But for the most part i dont have a problem with it. I think i should be able to stand by my decision to vote for someone and I dont think it should create tension with your neighbour bc you are voting differently from them. However, everyone has ever right to not share who they are voting for if that is how they feel.
However, if i was American, I would have a giant sign with flashing lights that reads:
I AM NOT VOTING FOR JOHN MCCAIN!
Also, has anyone seen the funny mock PSA against John McCain? It's a take on anti drinking and drug PSAs to kids. "And if one night, you are ever thinking of voting McCain...just call me. I'll come pick you up. No questions asked."
Edit: I had a further thought (i occasionally have more than 1 a day). Maybe it's is different in the States where you more or less only have 2 options. You are either this, or you are this. There are 5 main parties here, plus a few independents kicking around and the rando parties who have like...3 members (when i went to vote yesterday there was someone on my ballot who i had never heard of...and i thought his party no longer existed. Im sure he got lots of votes!), so maybe it's less of a big deal. It isnt one team against the other. There are 5 groups which whom you can spread your hate! :) |

Well, let's say you have your neon Obama sign up, and 3 houses down, a neighbor you don't know very well has signs up that he/she supports McCain. Would you be any less likely to strike up a friendship with this neighbor? I mean, subconsciously would you think they were stupid/crazy/misguided? It has to tarnish your view of them somewhat, doesn't it?

i think i posted my above edit after your replied, so...it more or less explains my thoughts on that.
And yes, i more or less think people voting for McCain are crazy, however, if that neighbour had a pool and made kick ass banana bread, i would probably forget about their republican ways in a month or so :) although if they were a leafs fan i would hate them more than if they voted for a party i disliked, lol
But in all reality, my opinion of people goes much deeper than their politcal views.
im saying more or less a lot today. |

I like your answer. My best friend forwards me political propaganda e-mails all the time. We support opposing candidates, though I have never told her this because I don't want her to think I'm insane. She's obviously so passionate for the other candidate.
Likewise there is a heated battle between two candidates for judge in my city. Some streets, 50% of the houses have signs out for one or the other. It's crazy! Way worse than the presidential election. Anyway, the candidate I intend to vote for came to my house, along with his wife, and asked if I would put a sign on my lawn. I said no, even though he's the one I support.
Maybe I'm the one with the problem. I just want to keep peace in the 'hood and not be hated. |

Just erect a signpost telling them all you're a Blood and you'll have no more problems from here on in. |

That doesn't really reflect the friendly, good-neighbor image I try to project. |
