For some musicians being in a tribute band is just a gig , i don't disresrect em for it . Sometimes it's fun to bash out the tunes .
The Jesus and Mary Chainsaw Massacre , is a good name

I'd never thought about tribute bands at any level until I joined a covers band myself. So now I sing tributes to all and sundry.
It's great fun. We don't take ourselves too seriously, but we do rehearse every week.
We've done one gig (we've only been together a few months), which was scary but the best buzz of my life ever (probably)! We'd love to do more, and are looking at doing open mic nights and stuff like that.
Anyone who's ever done karaoke, has done a tribute of a sort, if you think about it.
To get some tips and ideas, like homework, we went to see a local covers band called the Slaves. I've now seen them 6 times- they play once a month in a local pub, and perform all over London. They're not specifically a tribute to one band, but they cover many rock classics, and have a repertoire of over 100 songs.
Oh, and they keep updating the list, so I was v surprised recently to hear Kooks and Automatic at the gig!
It's one of the best evenings. Cheap, cheerful, a great sing and dance along.
And as a career, don't knock it. They make enough from their gigs to have given up their day jobs.... |

Ah, Tonie I know your band. What I meant as Tribute Band is those bands palying a certain band's discography and making themselves look like the band members with costume and make up.
There are many cover bands here as well. Some of them are really annoying but some are cool. I mean going to a pub and listening to a live band playing Brit rock tunes is a fun night, you know.
Looking forward to watch you live ,some day! ;-)

It's fair to say I've never tried to look like any particular rock singer!!! And yes, there's a definite difference between covers and tributes. I just wanted to put to rest any potential doubters of the beauty that is a night out seeing a good covers band!!! |

Are there any Travis cover bands? I always thought it'd be fun to start one called "The Men Who... aren't". |

I have googled if I could find a Travis tribute band. No chance so far.
Would look pretty cool with a lead singer with Mohican haircut and all that..
Treyvis? Anyone? |

I did the same to no avail. I'll keep an eye out though.
There are some videos on youtube of covers but no specific tribute bands. |

Nice. :)
I saw a tribute band in Portsmouth just over a week ago called Skinny Linnard. It was a tribute band for Lynard Skinard. They were awsome actually. Their cover of Free Bird was amazing. |
