who do you think nowadays are better than our bhoys but on the same kinda level?

Id say, in no particular order;

Kings Of Leon
Arcade Fire
Coldplay ( ok they are a tad more famous now )

No more I can think of really.

they're all awesome bands but in their own way therefore i couldn't compare them and coldplay was after all inspired by them.

but i get wat ur trying to imply there.

I am a huge TRAVIS fan myself and they're at the top of my league when it comes to my favourite bands=D in my honest opinion the other bands are good toO.maybe Travis is a bit better basing on their lifespan in the industry and they're not going anywhere anytm soon with a great great recent album released and their huge base of loyal fans that are going nowhere!

This really is a daft question.

Are you just wanting some kind of validation for having Travis as your favourite band, or are you looking for a list of bands that other people like? Or a number in direct answer to "how many", as provided by Dubz?

It's actually such a daft question that it is impossible to answer, unless you live and breathe Travis and have no other musical interests whatsoever, in which case it's easy to say "zero". But that's not my answer.

So, just because someone feels Travis is the best band around right now, that means they have no other musical interests whatsoever? That makes no sense.

Yup, They have been kicking around for years, Major Lefties they've been complaining about Nestle and Coca-cola etc. long before anyone else, they have a few good albums, even if most people only know them for the "Tubthumper" tune.

LOL @ the topic.

And meanwhile on a Nickelback forum, dozens of Nickelback fans are asking the same question of their band. Is there anybody better?

What makes no sense is this apparent need for validation. Or at least that's how it comes across to me.

And as I said, it's virtually impossible to answer, especially in the Travis page of the Travis forum, unless the answer is 0. And anyhow, what is the question based on? Sound? Commercial performance? Prolificness (is there such a word?)Number of fans? etc etc etc

Hopefully Morethanme is satisfied that his question has been answered by other people, cos I've clearly been no help!

Hmmm, this seems to have taken on a life of its own. Originally I really should have been more specific.

What i was really aiming for is how high regard do you hold this band in, as in, do YOU think they are the best band in the world (in any type of way) or if YOU thought there are better bands out there.

Now...Me, id say Coldplays live shows are slightly better.

Kings Of Leon write better albums.

The Arcade Fire write better songs.

All in my opinion of course, I couldnt tell you all why i think that, nor do i think i need to. But thats my opinion.
And, you know what they say about opinions, they are like bum holes, everyone has one.

At the moment i dont think their is any band better than Travis. Travis have got the magic that the others haven't and its only due to little publicity that they are not getting noticed for it. I think its down to their togetherness which leads to them working as a team and by the current record, each and everyone one of them is performing to their strengths which hasn't been true of their other records. Now compare them with other bands i.e. Oasis, they chop and change their band members, its heavily reliant on Noel and they've past their best in terms of creativity and struggle to find a new direction. If you look at Ode to J.Smith, theres so much new Travis stuff which has never surfaced and even the B-sides are adding another dimension to the band. the futures bright even with little mention in the media

One band. James.

Let me explain my logic. Like Travis, they've suffered for years from negative music press after a period of being their darlings (Gold Mother period compared to Good Feeling / Man Who period) despite maintaining a loyal following and having live shows that really take the recorded output of the band to new levels.

Both have come out with possibly the best albums of their careers this year and have done relatively well chart-wise despite minimal promotion whilst continuing to sell well live. As with Travis, James showcased their new material with a series of gigs before recording the last album (James played nineteen new songs over two nights in Hoxton last September without the comfort net of a second set). Where James, in my view, go past Travis, is the variety of sound they produce on record and live, probably down to the fact James are a seven-piece. James continually change their setlist throughout a tour, playing both new material but keeping the "greatest hits" fans happy at the same time, and bring new arrangements to songs with improvisation, both musically and lyrically. And whilst Fran is one of the most engaging and lively frontmen around, Tim Booth definitely shades him in that respect.
