I don't want to like them because of what some of their members did to me and my friend before they formed this band...

    | The Butterfly Explosion and River City Public are not bad.

btw I saw Madness about 3 years ago at The Point in Dublin it was brilliant, all these 30-40 year old guys with Fez's and suits and dressed up, probably Doctors and Lawyers by day but for that night everyone was 18years old again and skankin'

    | Me and my friend ran a university society, which they were going to take over the next year. They didn't hand in the forms, killed our society, then bitched at us about how it didn't exist in the first place. And now they always ignore us and won't make eye contact when we see them out. So petty. |

    | The most hyped band here at the moment are Duné. They're not very local though since they're from the North of this country.
The most 'local' band I can think of are The Raveonettes. Their male singer grew up in town near where I'm from.

I saw some discussion on the board today about the Pixies, and I was really lucky to be a young twentysomething when the Pixies first came out in Boston. This was long before they became living legends, and I would go to see them in dingy basement clubs with my friends. In any event, I haven't been part of that scene in a long time, but for every band like the Pixies, there are 200 other talented bands that never catch on. Below are some of my favorites from "back in the day" in Boston, along with some suggested download tracks. Thought that some of you might enjoy discovering some great new, old music (if you can find it). Most of them have profiles on www.allmusic.com:
Buffalo Tom
- Taillights Fade, Larry, Soda Jerk, Sunday Night
Bill Janovitz (singer from Buffalo Tom - AMAZING voice)
- Girl's Club
Big Dipper
- All Going Out Together, Love Barge
Mighty Mighty Bosstones (before they were famous)
- Where'd You Go?, It Can't Hurt, Guns & the Young
Blake Babies
- I'm Not Your Mother, Out There
Juliana Hatfield
- Everybody Loves Me But You
Throwing Muses
- Not Too Soon, Counting Backwards, Green
Galaxie 500
- Fourth of July, Blue Thunder
Luna
- California (All the Way), Tiger Lily
Dumptruck
- Back Where I Belong
Morphine
- Cure for Pain, Candy
Lemonheads
- Rockin Stroll, Confetti, It's a Shame About Ray, Rudderless
Cavedogs
- Bed of Nails
Del Fuegos
- Don't Run Wild, I Still Want You
The Modern Lovers (before my time but well worthwhile)
- Roadrunner (how many bands can say that they had a song covered by the Sex Pistols??)

Haz mentioned Buffalo Tom to me the other week well impressed, The Lemonheads cover of Mrs Robinson is brilliant and I think I have Galaxie 500's On Fire and Uncollected somewhere must dig them out... and the Throwing Muses were a fantastic band !!!

Every band is a local band somewhere, I suppose.

 But my fav locals are:

 The Apparitions
 The Scourge of the Sea
 er...

 Vandaveer

Does Bonnie "Prince" Billy count even though he's from Louisville?
