It went into the 80's, otherwise I wouldn't keep having these terrible flashback memories. I specifically remember Open Arms and Don't Stop Believing from when I was in 5th grade. According to Wikipedia 1981-1983 was the height of their popularity.

Next had total street cred at the time with my peers then singer number 3 Steve Perry joined the band

Steve Perry was the 3rd lead singer? I have no memory of Journey before him. Or after him.

keyboard player greg rollie sang after the 1st album , can't remember the name of singer number one

Kayte, yes, Steve Perry wasn't the first Journey singer but really, he made Journey. The new guy sounds just like Steve Perry but has curly hair. They are coming to Houston in August (I think) but I have no interest in seeing them unless Steve Perry is singing.

Say what you will about their music but you can't deny that man has some pipes.
