Thanks for confirming what I thought I already knew!
For the record, his answer was "I'll give you whatever money you want. All you need to do is ask. I didn't realise it was such a big deal to you."
But I said I wasn't looking for the money now, nor did I feel I should have to ask, it's about appreciating someone doing you a favour, and remembering to be thankful for it.
Eh, then I got a little immature and told him he's fucked if he's getting a lift off me again until he's thought about what he's done! |

I got the general gist of what it must mean but I still went to the dictionary out of curiousity. It was there. Maybe it's just not common here.
Or maybe Kayte and I are both stupid. |

I think it is option #1. You are Travis fans, you couldnt possibly be stupid. |

I looked it up, too. Our willingness to learn a new word means we cannot be totally stupid.
1. A burden or obligation; duty.
2. Responsibility or blame.
We can add it to the list of things we've learned on the board. |

Of course it is the passenger's responsibility to offer. That's just good manners.
Post 3000? I need to shut up.
but you ride a motorcycle and you still make em pay up ?
better watch out for you on the road next time i pass by detroit lol
I don't allow passengers. They're alway screaming, "Slow down! Slow down! You're gonna get us killed!" I don't need that. |

I love how you go from the mature response straight to childish! Awesome! |

I had to look up "onus" too. But it's not weird at all, because I don't speak English :oP.
I come here to agree with everyone else. I don't drive, but each time a friend offers me a lift and it's not a five minutes ride, I offer him / her money for gas. It's the right thing to do. You can't expect the driver to ask you for money. |
