I've watched a couple of episodes of the office now that the hype has died down and they are not bad but I think the problem is that David Brent does exist in probably most offices these days, I know it's supposed to be based on real life but to me comedy is escapism and Brent is to close to the bone, yeah he's funny and the butt of everyone's jokes but I don't think it would be that funny if you actually had to work with the useless fucker.
Gervais was brilliant on the 11 O'clock Show but he really should have stayed there. He's the perfect example of what happens when people start believing their own hype.

It's all gone horribly wrong when someone can't remember your real name, only a character's name ... hehe, I meant Ricky Gervais, not David Brent.
The first few episodes of The Office were ok, but then the cringe-worthy factor got a little repetative and, as you say, it's too much like a real office (there's certainly a Brent in my office!)
I hear ya there, It's funny for the first few weeks until you're actually trying to get sh!t done and the fecker is that inept you feel you are gonna kill him
It's the same with Homer Simpson he's funny as feck but if someone like that lived next door and behaved like that... you'd have to throttle him.
