Morphine
- Cure for Pain, Candy
I stumbled across their "Yes" album at the store when I was in university. They are hardly known around here but still seeing their CDs in a music store in Turkey is something big. Lol Had a chance to preview "Cure for Pain" and "Like Swimming" afterwards and I liked what I have heard so far. Funnily enough, I thought they were British.
These guys are from my hometown. They are doing some experimental folk music in both Turkish and Laz language. I am not sure how would they sound to you but I love them a lot. Kazim Koyuncu passed away of cancer couple years ago. :-(

I know! I'm just surprised that they're still together. They were out when I was a teenager & I'm 40 now. I never pictured them to be going the way of the Rolling Stones & performing into their golden years (not that the 40s is considered golden years -- at least I hope not!!!).

Thanks for the tips! How sad about Kazim Koyuncu. Ironically, Mark Sandman, the lead singer of Morphine, also died about 7 or 8 years ago. He died on stage, I believe of a heart ailment that had been undiagnosed. So sad. |

Gelevera is a gorgeous duet. I think I will multiply his CDs when I am back in Istanbul. I have been thinking to send you some of his stuff actually but couldn't make sure if you'd bother to listen. |

Ughh, that is so sad indeed. Terrible and terrific way of waving goodbye to fans. Oh my!
My pleasure! |

The instruments remind me a little of Junoon. |

Kazim Koyuncu is my favorite between them as well. He has MUCH better tracks in the albums. With a few more different instuments too. Never thought he sounds like Junoon though. Maybe it is the "east" feel make you think that.
I am off to bed! Night you all. |

Los Campesinos! www.myspace.com/loscampesinos
I don't want to like them because of what some of their members did to me and my friend before they formed this band, but they're really good. If a little immature as people.
New Rhodes are sort of local www.myspace.com/newrhodes and I love them to pieces. James is one of the greatest tunesmiths of our generation. |
