Yeah coz I think it's a viral thingy, and I have no ear leakage, so there isn't any need for anti-biotics coz it won't work against the virus. I been doing some internet investigating.

You need to take an over-the-counter decongestant regularly for a week to dry up the fluid. The fluid is what causes the pressure. (And I know you've had ear tubes before, because I remember these things, so could be just fluid again. Have you had a cold recently?) BUT--if the infection is a bacterial infection, you will need antibiotics to clear it up. If the fluid sits there too long, that's when it gets infected. ENT before REM!

I have no fluid tho! I have a dry ear. I haven't had a proper cold recently, but been a bit congested in the sinus department. Just felt like my nasel passages had shrunk a bit, didnt have a runny nose or anything.

Why don't I have proper symptoms of stuff these days? My body always makes a half arsed attempt at being ill. But now my other ear is started to hurt, I dunno if it's me just being a hypochondriac or if it's actually hurting.

No, the fluid is BEHIND your tympanic membrane (ear drum). That is why people sometimes have to get tubes. The fluid sometimes gets trapped instead of draining down the eustachian tube. In children it happens more frequently because their eustachian tube is shaped differently than in adults, but it still happens in adults occasionally.

Shall I present my qualifications?

I worked in the Hearing Office of the Public Health Department for 4 years, typing up the results of thousands of children who had just seen the Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist. I have peered into the otoscope with my own eyes and seen it.
My own 3 children have been through this and all have tubes.
Two of them had ear infections, one just had so much fluid that her ear drums were about to burst.

I believe Anne's kids have had lots of ear infections, too.

Oh wow cheers. I wonder why my docs told me just to take painkillers then? Is that why I'm not supposed to get water in my ears then, coz it'll just make it worse? Coz I probably got water in my ears earlier on when I had a shower. Ohhh I have no time to be getting infected, what a fucking joke.

Painkillers--because it hurts.
Our ENT guys said a lot of regular general docs just don't think about recommending a decongestant for ear fluid. It works on more than just noses!
How long ago did you have your ear tubes? If you still have them, or if your ear drums haven't healed 100%, you need ear plugs when you shower. Don't want more water to get trapped in there.

Yeah, I'd say so! Maybe just as a precaution, then.
Are you able to get the good decongestants where you are, without being put under scrutiny for having a crystal meth lab in your home? Pseudoephedrine (Actifed, Sudafed).
