I went to campsides too.
It was a lot of fun. There are showers there, so there's no need for you to be dirty. I gotta say though, public bathrooms in poor and remote tiny villages are not the best.
The experience is quite shocking, it left its marks on me, but I think it had more to do with the places we visited and the people I met than the camping itself.
Plus, camping is cheap, so it allowed us to visit more places and stay longer without spending a lot of money.
