I work for a bank and while i'm not on the sales side anymore, I can still remember how dull it was.

Mind you what i'm doing now isn;t exactly a go on the big dipper. Hahahaha

There'd be no posts on here for the rest of the day if I posted it it's so boring. Everyone would fall asleep.

I worked for a bank one summer as a cashier, serving all those pensioners and worrying about the till not being even at the end of the day. Never again!!! My hubby agrees with me, and his experience was longer.
Behind the scenes might be better, though.

My friend got her bachelors and masters (a graduate degree) in math. She teaches at a college now. My only other friend who got a math degree also got one in computer science and he works for google now.

Hey Grin,

My friend Paul who did a Bachelors, then a Masters in maths now works as a technical safety Engineer for an Oil firm, doing risk analysis and probability studies for them. Think there's a bit more scope these days for maths degree's than just research then teaching. Just a thought - what about maybe applied maths, rather than pure maths. Which would give a bit more of a practical edge to it instead of pure theory?

Also, if you're keen on working the bank, why not try it out first? They're always on the look out for cashiers for holiday cover etc. I spent a couple of summers working for the Clydesdale Bank when I was a student. Plus during term time, nobody wants to work the Saturday shifts! Just a thought, might give an insight into the workings of a bank, what sort of roles would be open to you as a graduate, and would definitely look good on the old CV.

Oh last thought - just check out which degree's the bank would accept for the graduate programme, then do the one that interests you most.

Well, I´ve been working in a bank for more than 8 years now.

I can tell you it´s a pretty fucking boring job, but also very stressful at times.
Plus, you need some tons of patience to deal with the nonsense the clients will tell you... Sometimes i would want to yell: what the fuck is wrong with you, people!
Dealing with customers is always tricky...

I have an indefinite contract, it´s not badly payed... it´s a good job if you´re looking for security...

Is math necessary to do what i do every day? Of course not!
In fact, i studied Law. I never liked maths...

The amount of enthusiasm from the post above is almost overwhelming. :P

I think you should do whatever you think will be most interesting, I doubt if it will make a huge difference in the long run. You seem to be keeping your options open, so if banking is as dull as everyone says, at least you won't be stuck there! ;)

btw, how do they paint white lines on football pitches... ooops, now I'm boring too!

As my gorrgeous mate says: "It's just all about string and paint!"

And yeah I'm stickin with the maths methinks, I find it more interesting, and understandable. I will probly change my mind bout the banking thing anyway, I have too many ideas going on in this little head of mine that never amount to anything in reality...
