Jason Schwartzman's stuff...that g-damn california song ruined 'phantom planet' for me...but his new project coconut records has helped heal the wound.

I was just wondering if the dance would be coming back or if Haz is over that.
And Haz, props for harassing Sandy about Starbucks. Had I seen that earlier I would have given her grief too. |

But, now I'm really loving them!

For me it's a genre. Hip-Hop, not rap. It really is an art form. If it's done correctly, and it's used as a social commentary, and not just to talk about bitches and hoes... then it's awesome. I watched VH1 Hip hops honors on monday, and a lot of the people they featured are really good hip hop artisst, but aren't reconized anymore because it's been somewhat bastardized.
So, artist wise, I'd say Lupe Fiasco, Common, and A Tribe Called Quest. |

i never liked this band either but then i started digging some of their stuff. "dakota", "have a nice day", "local boy in a photograph", "that one about doing something to your radio". good songs.
Agree, "Dakota" rocks. And so does "Have A Nice Day." And I usually have my iPod set to where I can wake up to "Pick A Part That's New." |

EDIT: Technically, this thread is about bands, not singers. So sorry to bring a solo artist into the mix :oP
Tom Waits definately deserves a place in this thread. His voice irritated me deeply, but somehow it has grown on me. I had to hear it a lot cause husb. is a big "fan". I like the fact that he makes the music he want without commercialising it. Ever listened to "A little rain"? Beautifull!! (so is a lot of his other stuff, like this one:) http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=L0-KhvrGwCU
This ones pretty wacky, i love it, nice gitarsound
a few other good ones:

Great to see Tom Waits mentionned here, I always loved is voice. How about Leonard Cohen as well then?
But to me it happened with Jonnhy Cash. The "country" tone never did it for me and I got into him when I heard his version of Personal Jesus and One at the itme of the film's release last year. Since I got into his music and there is something in his voice, universe that rings the same chord in my soul than L Cohen or T Waits or even Chet Baker.
How about that :
