The Jam's version of David Watts. I prefer it to the original, by the Kinks. |

Was Sinead O'Connor's version not a cover from a Prince song in the first place?
Correct
Shit, really? Oops, sorry. |

Any other songs where the cover is better than the original? I know it's a matter of taste, but I'm curious anyway...
i rather John Cale's version than Buckley's. it's got more soul. |

For sheer comedy value ....
Ben Gibbard - Complicated (Avril Lavigne)
..and more seriously...
Michael Andrews - Mad World (feat. Gary Jules)
EDIT: ..and I can't believe I forgot The Gourds - Gin & Juice :D

I'm with you on that one.
also, Johnny Cash - Hurt and In My Life (how the hell do yo better a Beatles song!?)
Stiff Little Fingers - It Doesn't Make it Alright (Specials)
This Mortal Coil - Song to the Sire (Tim Buckley)
Siouxsie and the Banshees - Dear Prudence (maybe nt better but equally good)

That's a fucking ace cover. I get goosebumps whenever I hear Kelly Jones singing it. It's on that album (I forget what it's called - One Love or something) with other bands who have covered songs eg. Noel Gallagher singing Slade's Merry Christmas Everybody which is also ace. Must look out that album again. |

Well since we're on Lennon covers maybe not better but... and Ric might agree with this, Teenage Fanclub's version of The Ballad of John and Yoko
