the boy with a cryptic name wrote: I like DD a lot, sometimes it fits your mood so perfectly. Beautiful lyrics.
IMO it's the best song out of the little group of Paperclips, Last Laugh of the Laughter, The Cage etc.
fits perfectly in that cathegory... |

Woah, slow down boy, it isn't as good as The Cage. ;) And what's the "little group"? That's just a random group of Travis songs as far as i can see. lol I've never thought of Dear Diary and The Cage being similar at all. Maybe my ears are hearing something different though. :)
Edit: Sure, they're both acoustic things but totally different mood. |

The words are indeed beautiful but I can't deal with the melody.
Then kindly start your own Dear Diary hate thread. This one is for people who like the song. :)
Haha, no "hate" is a very strong word! I simply don't include it amongst my faves. |

Which is why it makes no sense to post (twice now) in a thread dedicated to the appreciation of a great song! |

well I love it and it surprised me to see many people didn't like it. I agree with Luke that it's strange to hear it between Sing and Side (though I must admit I've grown a bit tired of Sing...). After seeing the 12 Memory Lane post, I wonder if it would fit more on 12 Memories? (impossible, I know, but just a thought) |

I have always love this song.
For me is a poetic/mysterious song. Musically and lyrically. Such as amazazing phrases on it, and a mysterious surrounding in every tone and word.
It's an amazing song for me too.
I councurr with one of the best sentence is brilliant! "As nightshade descends like a veil, under the sail of my heart" |

I also love it, and to me it does fit the same 'club' as Paperclips etc...melancholic, moody and work for me a lot more than songs like Closer for example which I find kind of bland although it's grown on me seeing it performed live. It's just one of the 5 Travis songs that do talk to me in a profound unexplainable way. |

Obviously Travis do a lot of underground market research with songs such as DD & As You Are. Much like Coldplay's Trouble, lyrics such as 'web' & 'the net' are an obvious node & trigger point for the infiltration of the world wide web. I'm probably over-emphasing it too much, but I'm hoping not to be too late |
