have you seen "goodbye lenin"? you might like it.
well, for me every non-German movie is foreign language, so my list would be veeery long ;) but when it comes to non-English movies, my favs are:
- hejar (turkish/kurdish)
- children of heaven (farsi)
- volver (spanish)
- amélie (french)
- seachd (gaelic)
- bab'aziz (arabic/farsi)
and my fav German movies are:
- Grave Decisions (the original German title is sth like "Who dies first is dead for a longer time"), it's hilarious! (for everyone who tries watching it in German: it's Bavarian. You probably won't understand a word even if you speak German ;D)
- Mostly Martha
- Goodbye Lenin |

I love those, too! I think "Grave Decisions" is on TV tonight.
My favourite non-German, non-English movies are:
-Amelie
-8 Femmes
-Les Choristes
-Au revoir les enfants
-Le château de ma mère / La gloire de mon père
-Irène
...as you can see, I'm a sucker for French movies xD |

I saw a really funny Latin American film 20 years ago in a film club, wonder if anyone can recognise it? The story was basically that a man dies and his ardent union friends bury his workers' book (or a document like that) with him. Then the widow can't have pension, because she can't produce the late husband's work book. Then there's some midnight exhuming and other wild stuff. Sounds grim, but it was hilarious.
Of foreign or non-English films I like Kurosawa's films, Three colours -series (that's in French, isn't it?), and many others, especially French new wave classics.
Of Finnish films I can recommend the brothers Aki and Mika Kaurismäki films, like Helsinki-Napoli All Night Long, I Hired a Contract Killer, The Match Factory Girl and The Man Without Past.
Mika Kaurismäki lives (AFAIK) in Brazil, and some of his films are in Portugese |

Those of you you like Volver by Almodóvar... Really? When I saw that movie I was like: what the hell was that? :p
physke wrote: And I forgot to mention about Amores Perros! It's also great..The soundtrack is more than great - Lucha de gigantes!
I tried to watch that film but seriously, I didn't understand a word they said! And Spanish is my native language! *lol*

I don't know if there's more than one film called REC, but are you talking about the Spanish one? I haven't seen it, but a lot of people love it ;)

For me Volver has no sense. First of all, Raimunda's daughter is just 11 years younger than her mother. Hahaha. And second, what's the point of the film? Cause I didn't see it :p |

And for me every American or English film is automatically foreign! It's impossible to choose one but Tim Burton films are my favorites.
:) I was going to say the same, but I will play the game:
Eat, Drink, Man, Woman (Ang Lee's one of the early movies. I love food and I love good stories. This is a perfect movie for me!)
Goodbye Lenin
Amores Perros (I think good thing about not knowing Spanish is that there is no problem of not understanding. subtitles work pretty fine. And thanks to Perros and Y tu mama Tambien, I can curse pretty well in Spanish)
I liked Motorcycle Diaries, too but not on the top 5
Most of Almodovar movies. Especially All About My Mother.
They are weird but I have to say Emir Kusturica movies. I want to watch Underground again.
Spirited Away

Trainspotting!
But seriously:
Brotherhood
Battle Royale
Ong Bak
Azumi
District 13
Taxi
Shaolin Soccer
those are the only foreign language films I own. Guess it's kick ass for me! |

Ah Shaolin Soccer! This is the second film that can make me laugh after Austin Powers. |
