How dare you? Oh ye of little faith. Haha
Hey everybody. How are you all? Things are going great. Although it was a drearsome (now that is definitely a made up word) day, I decided to walk in to the studio. A fine drizzle can sometimes be quite refreshing of a morning.
Got in to the studio and, while Franny got some food, I re-did the bass part for the piano song. Was all done by the time he’d finished his sandwich and we all agreed it sounded much better. The song not the sandwich.
Decided that perhaps a few more b.v’s could spice up the last chorus so we got our choirboy heads on.. That sounds revolting. Once the falsetto was done, we had a go at some really low harmonies, I mean Johnny Cash low. It was very amusing to do but actually they sounded really good. With the song approaching saturation point, (there is so much stuff on this one) we thought it wise to leave well alone and Steve put down a rough mix.
We moved on to a brand new song, so new that the structure wasn’t quite finished but we thought we ‘d go in and see what happened. This one is catchy as cold and everyone was pretty on it straight away. The structure almost looked after itself once we started playing and it turned into a very fun evening.
As usual we tried to get most of it down at once so we set up as if live, Franny in a little makeshift vocal booth singing and playing acoustic, me next to him doing b.v’s and bass, Andy sitting next to me playing electric and Neily on the other side of a wall of windows (so that we can see him but the drums are stopped from spilling over everything else).
The song began to get a kind of classic 60’s west coast pop feel. And once everyone knew what they were doing we did our usual trick of doing take after take until it stops getting better and starts getting worse. The take two or three before that point is usually the one.
After a late dinner (a rather disappointing pad thai) Andy goes in to do a bit more guitar prompting a bout of mass pogo-ing in the control room.
