Today is a momentous day. Andy’s wife, Jo, brings Dylan Green Dunlop in for his first visit to a recording studio. He is a really lovely wee guy and we are impressed with the way he takes it all in his stride, cool as can be. Meanwhile he is impressed by Franny’s rendition of “twinkle, twinkle little star” on the xylophone. It seems to have some kind of hypnotic soporific effect on him.

The catchy tune is taking shape nicely , Franny came up with a really cool violin line which he demoed on keyboard. We will try and get our friend Sally, a violinist, to come in and do it for real. Steve spends a while comp-ing together some block piano chords that Andy put on. It sounds great and with the violin done properly, it will be done and dusted so there’s nothing for it but to move on to something else.

Franny has a partially formed demo of a really interesting sounding thing that could be well worth pursuing. So we give it a listen and get to work.

By the way, we’re not giving away any song titles just yet. Sorry. I’ll just have to keep coming up with irritating little code names for them all . Soon, my lovelies, all will be revealed.

I’m going to call this “the riffy one” , Ooh imaginative! We run through it a few times and work out what should go where.
There is a wee riff going on in this one that me and Andy have to do in unison meaning that we end up staring at each others fingers a lot, this is the musicians equivalent of staring into each other’s eyes. Very intimate . The drums are great in this and Neily plays brilliantly. After a while it’s starting to sound pretty good so we decide to let it settle for a bit and stop for dinner.

This turns out to be perfect timing as our friend Adam Buxton is in tonight’s episode of “The It Crowd”, Graham Linehan’s great new sitcom. Am really pleased because Adam’s great in it.

Did anyone see the NME awards? Was pleased for the Arctic Monkeys. The hat trick!
Suddenly realised as they were collecting their third award that I actually have copies of the NME older than most of them. It was a simultaneously amusing and sobering realisation.

After dinner (a not too bad pizza tonight) we went back in and had another few goes.
There’s loads of potential in this one I think. But I don’t think we’re going to get the take tonight. We call it a night around about half 1. After all tomorrow is another day.

Oh yeah, in answer to your question Dee, we’re looking to put about 11 tracks on the album and should have a bunch of b sides to choose from. But that could all change.
