Holy shit es ist SOOO shit weather here. Hail, snow and high seas.
In studioland we are on song 8. A song called Where You Stand. Slightly longer title there... Another Dougie number. One that has been around for a while but which he re worked with a friend of his and transformed it. Quite interesting how a subtle arrangement change and melodic twist can turn a song on it's head.
It's going incredibly well. I'm especially happy as it's the first time I feel like just the singer of Travis. Michael has taken up the reigns and is making everything sound like a million dollars. I pop in to listen and send notes on text here and there but we are all involved equally in this so the pressure, if any, is equally spread.
The writing of the record has been the same. Both Andy and Dougie have delivered their best work ever. I have done not bad either :) The album will be 11 tracks in total. There will be a bunch of extra tracks which either didn't fit or that felt more like b sides. I have a problem with the business in that, as a band, you make
your album, put it in an order with your best 11 tracks and then have to add extra tracks on at the end to tick some marketing box.
I would rather make a little extra package like a separate ep with 5 tracks which you get on the side, than fuck with the body of a record.
In other news, did i mention we are using the exact desk we mixed The Man Who on. It used to live in Mayfair studios in Primrose hill, but when the owner sold the premises to property developers, all of the contents were auctioned and Ocean Sound Recordings bagged it. Otherwise known as The Pink Neve it's been used to mix many a massive record. Nigel mixed OK Computer on it. I watched Bono plug an SM 57 straight into it and sing the opening howl to Walk On... so many positive electrons are swirling still within its circuitry.
