A day of a lot of listening. and little bits and pieces.
We gather round the mic en masse. Me, Fran, Andy, Neil, Emery, Claes and Nick to add some Ennio Morricone style hoo's and haa's to bolster the low end of the choir on J.Smith. Very enjoyable.
Franny puts on his vocal and I do a b.v. Then we move on to put a nashville tuned guitar on quite free.
Ian comes in and we put togther a rough edit of how the first 4 songs are going to run. we spend quite a while getting the joins between the songs just right. Holy shit. It sounds amazing.
Trish and Natalie from the studio bring in some bottles of fizz for us. which is very nice of them. The mood turns celebratory.
Franny moves on to vocalise on "broken mirror".
So, questions:
I am listening to vampire weekend, the dirty projectors, florence foster jenkins, very early bowie (66,67,68), the small faces.
I can't see a cover of Rhianna's umbrella being fortrhcoming. Great song though it is, the novelty cover has become a little overdone i fear. It's practically industry standard now. So i don't think the Britney will be making many more appearances either.
No sax on the record I'm afraid, but one of these days. The closest i have got is the little clarinet part in paperclips. It would be a tenor.
Filthy swan is an artist's collective i was a part of during and after art school. They remain some of my best friends. and we continue to exist in spirit and philosophy.
The flickering light in Rak is just plain white light.
I have a great dentist here in London. Scottish fella called ewan.
We are all pretty creative in the studio and all love to get stuck in. Franny is the motor though.
I am not a sweetie lover. But if pushed I would take a peanut butter cup.
Lola will possibly see the light of day but we have yet to record it. Been a bit busy.
The 3 tunes franny was talking about were something anything, long way down and last words.
We are not using the c word.
Paternity leave starts on monday.
Favourites at the moment are all of them. Honestly.
The album will be 11 songs long. there are no extra tracks recorded yet.
We are no longer with Independiente. we completed our 5 albums for them . and the parting was entirely amicable.
This time round we had a very complete plan of what we wanted to do in the studio as we had played the new songs live . And we knew exactly how we wanted to record them. we still left room for happy accidents though.
we don't know what the artwork will be like all of this and the business side of things will fall into place over the next couple of months.
