Hi Alan, 12 Memories is very underrated I feel – some great songs on there – How Many Hearts for instance plus Walking down the Hill.

Agreed. It is an underrated album, but I love it. It has one my favorite songs ever: Somewhere Else.

Lots of great moments on that album…first 4 songs were v strong opener and some great songwriting throughout.
Tempted to record a wee cover version of one of these….have a “do it for fun” band Broken By Rock

Remember being at Uni in Stirling (main reason for going to uni in Scotland was Travis) and reading a track by track breakdown of all the songs in NME. Was really excited about the album and how Fran said it was his first where the songs didn’t all originate on guitar. It didn’t disappoint

I remember hearing Re-Offender on radio 1 when it got its first play. Jo Whiley introduced it as “ a song about being trapped inside a brutal relationship” I was like oh no… hahaha. Another memory of that song was when we were recording the strings in Air Studios. Joby Talbot was conducting and I was making little changes here and there. There was one particularly difficult to explain change on the chorus I wanted to try where the notes of each chord changed pile on top of the next and resolve on the final “again” and just as I was starting to explain, George Martin walks into the room and stands behind me at the desk. So now I’m totally bricking it, trying to explain this quite odd arrangement idea that might sound shite “under his eye” Joby understood though and translated my incoherent-to-classically-trained-musicians instructions and they tried it. When they finished George said “Very good… very good” and then left.

That’s brilliant ! Thank you for sharing Fran! I love Quicksand on the album it is such a great opening. Your opening tracks are all so good. Perhaps you should plan to have a tour with all of the opening tracks for each album/EP in the set, it would be pretty original 😉

Studying and training is very important, but sometimes natural talent is essential too -like in your case. Thanks for sharing, @Fran

    Thanks Fran

I’ve always thought 12 Memories stirs up Beatle-esque vibes when I listen to it an attitude/vibe (white album for some reason) rather than copying the fab 4

It’s also one of my favourite Travis albums. Really underrated
