I remember years ago reading a post about all the songs that were cut from the last GTA game during development. There was supposed to be an alt rock station called PMR and one of the songs was going to be Side.

Just wondering what’s the strangest place you’ve heard a Travis song pop up…? A movie? TV show? In your local coffee shop… Do tell!

When the movie Hellboy came out I went to the movie theater, they used a song from Good Feeling in one of the scenes. Was not expecting that at all. I was probably the only one that was singing along. Lol

I remember that! It was a snippet of All I Want To Do Is Rock during a cool slow-mo bit if I recall correctly. Took me well by surprise. 😂

Not that strange but it was a few months ago, so can’t remember which song, but I think it was not really played out on radio and was in Tesco on a Sunday morning. As I was a little bit hungover I was loving it and got me through having to think about getting some food in for the day. My teenage son was mortified with my ‘singing’ while shopping and asked me to stop although I did catch him singing along at one point!

Was on my way to a recording session at the Albion rooms in Margate last year and popped in to Co-Op for breakfast, only to be met by Coming Around on the speakers. Perhaps not so strange but perfectly uplifting and motivational for the day ahead.

In my local supermarket they sometimes play Travis songs. I love it. When you enter fully stressed out, trying to remember what you needed to buy, and then “Flowers in the window” starts playing … and everything else is not so important anymore.

It’s not a song, but I found a single Travis promotional sticker, from the year 2003, in the random sticker bin at my local vintage store, in Colorado, in the year 2024! I thought that was cool.

I have to follow up on this thread with what I heard this weekend! Sitting at the bar at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado, I made my entire table of seven go quiet as I thought I heard something…and it was “The Cage”! So we did a toast lol.

Maybe not so strange, but during Harry Styles Love One Tour in 2023, there were some songs played as pre-show to get everyone in the mood. You can imagine the scream I screamed when I heard the first cello notes from Why Does it Always Rain On Me in the stadium packed with 80K people in Paris 🥰 Harry has good taste!

Dream Team on Sky One went through a spell where The Man Who was almost the soundtrack.

So this isn’t a random hearing, but strange all the same. Many many years ago, I road tripped through Australia. Just after we took off at Heathrow, I discovered I’d left behind my every CD (remember those wee album things you had for CDs? Mine was on my coffee table) EXCEPT for the one in the player, which was The Man Who. I listened to that album day in day out for weeks while driving from Cairns to Melbourne.

Including the night I ran out of petrol in the middle of nowhere in central Queensland and had to sleep in my car. I was so frightened lying in the backseat in the pitch dark, listening to animals screeching and what I was convinced was serial killer footsteps approaching every two seconds. Eventually I got out my discman because I realised that hearing the serial killer coming wouldn’t actually help me. I put it on repeat, turned the volume up, wrapped myself in a giant hoody and tried my best to sleep. Remember how there’s that kind of false ending with several seconds of silence before the secret last song? Several times I fell asleep during the silence only to jump out my skin moments later.

And then the car shook. I couldn’t see what was happening because of the hoody and I couldn’t hear properly over Driftwood at top volume, so I’ll never really know what happened. But some men (3-4? Not sure!) tried to get into the car and/or maybe tip it. They gave up after a few minutes and I finally realised they were actually gone just as Turn was starting. Adrenaline drained and I burst into tears, sobbed all the way through the rest of the album… and to this day, the opening of Turn gives me the heebie jeebies!
