Dear Fran, Dougie, Andy, Neil, and all Travis fans,

Hello! I’m Ray, a university student from a coastal city in China called Amoy. What I’m about to write might get a bit emotional or even sappy (trust me, the Chinese version is even sappier), but please forgive me — I just can’t help being sincere.

I was born, grew up, studied, and have never left this city. The sea breeze blows hard here every day — it’s already summer, yet it still feels quite cool. My city has no real seasons. Everything seems eternal, and a lot of people find that boring. We don’t see snow, we barely see autumn leaves. It’s always lush and green. Maybe it’s because I grew up in this kind of environment that I tend to stick with things more easily. I don’t get bored or tired of things quickly, and that applies to my hobbies too.

For young people, tastes and interests can change easily, especially with all the so-called trends and the influence of the internet. But from what I’ve seen, Travis fans are incredibly devoted for a long time. I wonder — is it because people who are loyal and persistent are naturally drawn to a band as loyal and enduring as Travis? Or is it that the band’s wonderful qualities have rubbed off on everyone?

I’ve watched a lot of Travis interviews and documentaries — by the way, Almost Fashionable is absolutely brilliant. It’s the warmest documentary I’ve ever seen. The word “boring” comes up a lot, and I love how the band responds to that label: “We think boring is cool.” That sentence untied a knot in my head. I used to be influenced by the internet, always admiring those “cool” people and trying so hard to be cool myself. But it never really worked — there was always someone cooler, and I could never keep up with the latest trends. “Boring is cool” loosened that rope around my brain. Now I’m happy every single day, and listening to Travis makes me even happier.

Now, spending time in this forum every day, reading everyone’s little stories about their daily lives — I think that’s really cool too. It’s the kind of warmth you rarely get to experience on social media. I love this atmosphere. I really want to stay here forever.

Oh no, I’ve said way too much. Please forgive me 😭😭

Thank you, Travis, for telling me “boring is cool” at such an important moment in my life. I’m adding that to my list of mottos — right next to what Andy said about creativity. You’re all just too good with words.

Thank you all — fans and band alike — for being willing to share your daily lives and your honest thoughts. They are priceless treasures on the internet.

      Love you all,

      Rayxxx

Awwww…What a lovely story and how true. Boring can be cool! Social media can leave us feeling dissatisfied with our own life, but not everything that glitters is gold. So we need to make the most of who we are, without comparing ourselves with anything else, that most of the time is not even real.
      Keep on going!
