I speak some German, as I lived there for a year and had some lessons. I studied Swedish at school, which made learning German easier, except now those two languages get mixed up in my mind :^P
I also studied French for a few years at school, but that's all as good as forgotten by now. English was my main foreign language.

I studied German for two years in High School. I don't remember very much because I don't use it like I use Polish around my boyfriend and family. But, I don't remember German being that hard to learn. I think it might be easier if English is your first language.

English helps learning a lot of languages. I've never studied Italian, but with a pretty good knowledge of English it's relatively easy to follow simple announcements (at railway stations etc) and read wine labels. There are a lot of similar words!
Finnish doesn't help you to learn anything, except maybe Estonian, and even then it's more likely to confuse with the similar or even same words meaning totally different things. |
