It can be caused by stress or tiredness. At least in my own experience :oP
I just want to take my eyeballs out of my head...they hurt so bad! Prolly a combo of both stress and tiredness in my case. It's like I'm tired but I can't go to sleep. :/
Has your eyelid stopped twitching? I get that too.

Ohh, take some painkillers and try to rest, to relax. Lie on your bed if you can't sleep.
