Yay for the gift certificate! Being nice is indeed fun. Except for when you end up having to replace your living room window for it. But all in all I'm for being nice!

aww, that was sad indeed.

It's more of a this week's news in my case.
So. Had 2 interviews this week, I'm supposed to hear from both places on Monday which probably means I won't be able to sleep or eat until then.
I also have an interview on the 17th Nov. so I rescheduled my flight home - will go a week later (or, hopefully, won't go at all). This led to 3 massive phone rows with my mother. Lovely.
I attended 2 gigs - Arctic Monkeys and Jessie J (hehe, don't judge, she's awesome). The former led me to developing a massive crush on Alex Turner.
That's all.

Been a busy week and weekend, the before New Year rush has already started, meaning non-stop work from now until Christmas. I'll be ready for a little break then!
Also, my 15-year-old daughter seems to be having her first official boyfriend ("in a relationship" on Facebook!). He seems ok, and surprisingly enough, I'm not climbing walls. It seems only yesterday when I was changing her nappies… I feel old.

:( , :/ , :)

with me, it's just "no interviews". at all. since august.
I'm convinced now that ONE of the reasons why I can't find a job (in a thriving economy!) is my last name, especially when it comes to jobs in the public sector, at universities, and in Communications. I mean like my name and I'm definitely not going to change it, ever, but I might send out some fake(-name-)applications (in addition to the real one) just to test some of those people...

You should do that! And if they invite the fake-German-name one but not the real you, sue their butts off.

*rofl* :D :D :D

but what if my surname sounded even more... EVIL? What if my name was "Evil-Elf Axisofevil"?!

I really should try it... problem is, you usually have to send written references with the first application and, obviously, my name's on all of them... damn.

The Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency (which we shouldn't need in the first place) did several studies on the subject and the results were alarming, esp. regarding applicants over 50 and people with a "migration background"... so some big companies were "forced" (to pretend) to accept anonymous applications. I read that Deutsche Telekom is one of them, but their online application form hasn't changed a bit.

You have to submit references with your cv? sheesh. Here, they can't ask for them until after an interview and they have to ASK permission to contact these people.
Can I re-write the german hiring practices? they seem a little loopy. first thing to go is the picture with application bit

I have just been presented with Employee of the Month for June.

The prize is a weekend away in Galway.

YES - PLEASE please re-write them!!! Millions(!) of Germans would be eternally thankful!! Of course, there are quite a few professional photographers who've specialised in application-pictures, so they'll hate you at first, but I'm pretty sure they'll come around once they realise they're free to take pics of more interesting things now...

Congrats! I googled Galway and it seems pretty.

No news here. Does "no news is good news" rule apply here? I think not.

Bit of a mixed bag today... Got asked if I would accept a job with the hotel if they put the wheels in motion, department budgets, general manager's decisions, etc., etc. Then was told I'd have to start on minimum wage €7.62per hour. Works out at €297.18 per week BEFORE tax, which I think is running about 22% and other deductions, I'd be lucky to clear €220 a week. At the moment I get €300 a week in benefits. The guy I'm working alongside and doing exactly the same job as is on €30k, I'd be on half of that €15,500.
