Something weird my mind thought yesterday. For people who live in countries using the metric system, when you buy cut flowers, do they come in a bouquet of a dozen (12) or in a bouquet of 10? (Not counting tulips because I think they almost always come in groups of 10 for some reason.) |

Because they are crazy.
Although to be fair, outside the medical world, pretty much everyone would say their height and weight using feet and inches here. |

I know a dozen is still 12. I just wondered if you got rid of the dozen, because it isn't based on 10's. So, 12 flowers are still standard for a bouquet? What about eggs, 12 or 10? |

The metric system really is so much more sensible. They have been saying since I was in elementary school that the US will be switching. They made us do story problems in math using the metric system. Have we ever switched? NOOOOO. Have we even begun the process of switching? NOOOOO. My daughter still brings home these metric story problems in math having no clue what these measurements actually are. I wish we'd get off the fence. Either switch or don't. |

yes, a dozen is still 12.
Yes, metric is much more sensible. everything is based on 10s, 100s, 1000s.
Do the little things that make up an inch have a name?
Ricster, hockey training camps start in a few weeks and the season at the begining of Oct. |

We just refer to it as fractions of an inch. Like 3 1/4 inches or 3.5 inches, or 3 1/16 of an inch. Like that. |

I have never seen a pub selling half litres of beer. A pint is a pint is a pint. |

Forget the flying cars, bring on the food capsules! Maybe then I can get a green vegetable passed my lips without gagging before I die of malnutrition. |

UK is a funny mixture of metrics and other systems (like the saying somebody is not a full bob). I was born in a metrics country, and everything is pretty clear. Mind you, the "pint" can be the real UK pint or 0,5 l, it's pretty close anyway.
Roses are often sold by the dozen, just like there are traditional measurements for paper, wood, font sizes… About fonts, back in the day when you had to get your text laid out by professional type setters some companies used metrics for sizes, but now we're talking about points and picas again.
I find it really difficult to bake according to US or UK systems, I always have to covert everything to litres, ending with 1,23 dl and 85 grams, really awkward! |
