Many, many moons ago, back in the days when I thought I wanted to be a teacher, we had to create lesson plans as part of our course work. I think there were 4 steps or something that each lesson plan had to cover, and the last step was creating a situation where the children would have to apply what they had just learned.
Our professor told us this was the most difficult part of the lesson plan. Older teachers never do this. Younger ones are starting to learn to do this, but often skip it because it takes too long or is too difficult.
