so, i've read a really good article about life a long time ago
it's called 50 life lessons

here are my favourite ones

4. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
13. Don't compare your life to others'. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

most of them are really right
if you are interested you should go check it out yourself
i'm sure you're gonna like it

Well... I guess I don't fully understand it. What do they mean with "taking yourself seriously"?

A person who takes themselves too seriously can't laugh at themselves if they make a mistake or do something that makes them look a little foolish. They aren't good at "going with the flow."

Does that make more sense?

It does if you put it that way. But "Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does" sounds like there's no need to respect yourself since nobody else does.

That's where it get's lost in translation buddy,

There's a big difference between respect and seriousness or respectisnous and serious. that's before you even get into self respect or self seriousness.

For example you can be perfectly Serious/Respectful without being Respectful/Serious,

This is where the great concepts of Irony and Sarcasm come into play.
