Sadly, there are no (active) Australian boardies here, are there? Sigh.

Lilly, read 'Yes Man' by Danny Wallace. You'll see why when you do.

I read it this summer ;). That's one of the the main reasons why I'm so keen on seeing more of them now!

We have a definite roadside attraction here called "the tree of life" or something like that. It's a massive sculpture out in the middle of the desert.

Done and done. I am a giant Kiwi Fruit. My older sister was touring New Zealand this year and took photos of every 'Big Thing' she passed, since she knows I love Danny Wallace books.

Wow Mili!!! That looks amazing.

I live in the middle of a big city, so there are no roads with giant roadside stuff near me.

Well, it's supposed to be a tree. It's made out of concrete and the broken looking pieces are all a part of the sculpture. Like one of the "balls" fell from the tree and broke. Here's a little more info on it.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metaphor:_The_Tree_of_Utah

As far as one of the balls looking like a baseball...I'm not sure what the artist's thoughts were on that.

It's out in the middle of the Salt Flats (west of SLC), just off the highway.

you mean the castle in the picture mili posted?
that's Neuschwanstein - it's in Bavaria, of course *lol* and it really looks like this. Disney-like and all. From the outside. ;)
Inside it's...very interesting. King Louis II didn't have the best, err, taste in interior design, but he had a great imagination. But I'm afraid a castle doesn't qualify as a Giant Roadside Attraction.

I'm still waiting for a friend to upload photos from her trip to Australia, so I can steal one for my avatar...

Until then, I'll have to go with the one "big thing"-esque attraction in my own city, a cliché.
