Sadly, there are no (active) Australian boardies here, are there? Sigh.
Lilly, read 'Yes Man' by Danny Wallace. You'll see why when you do. |

I read it this summer ;). That's one of the the main reasons why I'm so keen on seeing more of them now!

We have a definite roadside attraction here called "the tree of life" or something like that. It's a massive sculpture out in the middle of the desert. |

Done and done. I am a giant Kiwi Fruit. My older sister was touring New Zealand this year and took photos of every 'Big Thing' she passed, since she knows I love Danny Wallace books. |

Wow Mili!!! That looks amazing.
I live in the middle of a big city, so there are no roads with giant roadside stuff near me.

Well, it's supposed to be a tree. It's made out of concrete and the broken looking pieces are all a part of the sculpture. Like one of the "balls" fell from the tree and broke. Here's a little more info on it.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metaphor:_The_Tree_of_Utah
As far as one of the balls looking like a baseball...I'm not sure what the artist's thoughts were on that.
It's out in the middle of the Salt Flats (west of SLC), just off the highway. |

you mean the castle in the picture mili posted?
that's Neuschwanstein - it's in Bavaria, of course *lol* and it really looks like this. Disney-like and all. From the outside. ;)
Inside it's...very interesting. King Louis II didn't have the best, err, taste in interior design, but he had a great imagination. But I'm afraid a castle doesn't qualify as a Giant Roadside Attraction.
I'm still waiting for a friend to upload photos from her trip to Australia, so I can steal one for my avatar...
Until then, I'll have to go with the one "big thing"-esque attraction in my own city, a cliché.
