Ugh, slow computer, someone probably already posted it, but I'll post anyway, I need distraction!
Oh, so that button isn't really an on/off button. It's more like an off/lock button? I'm so out of it! When I'm charging it, I should have it to orange or it doesn't matter?
I'm kinda starting to think this thing is just plain dead. It isn't sparking up at all. Blank screen. Bummer. I guess iPods don't like snow. Or do I need to give it more time?

Yeah, the top button is the Lock button. You can have it locked, or not. It doesn't really matter. I don't even bother actually turning mine off ever, unless I'm on an airplane or something.
Hold the Play/Pause button down to turn it on and off. :)
You could try this if it still isn't working:
1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 8 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

Ahh, you dropped it in the snow? I should've gone back and read the thread, and not jump in randomly. ;) |

No no, IIIIII didn't drop it in the snow. Every year the snowplow dumps mountains of snow on our property because we live on a corner. When the snow melts, we usually get "presents." Usually small toys, pens, garbage, and all manner of detritus. This year the snow plow brought us an iPod.
This thing is just dead, I think. It's not doing anything. :o( I was really excited about it because I wanted an iPod for my birthday and it just appeared that day. I thought it was a Festivus Miracle! |

It's almost like that scene in Office Space. (shudders)
I was so happy about it.

See how happy I was? |

Ahh, I remember reading about that after all. That's a bummer! The poor thing has probably taken a beating though. :-o |

Wouldn't my oldies sound great on an iPod?
My tapes are wearing out and I'm getting new stuff on CD. CD's make me nervous because they're so delicate. Plus I have stuff on iTunes now that I can't take with me. I just thought it would be nice. Wouldn't it be nice? |
