Here is some more inspiration:
* 20 Minutes after your last cigarette:
o Blood pressure decreases
o Temperature of hands and feet increases to normal (because of improved blood circulation)
* 8 Hours after quitting:
o The carbon monoxide level (that's car exhaust and it's in cigarette smoke!) in your blood drops to normal
* 24 Hours after quitting:
o Chance of a heart attack decreases
* 2 Weeks to 3 Months after quitting:
o Blood circulation improves
o Lung function (how well the lungs are working) increases up to 30%
* 1 to 9 Months after quitting:
o Coughing, congestion, fatigue, shortness of breath decrease
o The cilia (small hairs that line the airways) go back to working normally, meaning that your lungs get cleaner and function better overall
* 1 Year after quitting:
o Excess risk of coronary heart disease is half that of a smoker's
* 5 Years after quitting:
o Risk of stroke is reduced to the risk of a nonsmoker (between 5 and 15 years after quitting)
* 10 Years after quitting:
o The lung cancer death rate is about half the rate of a smoker who has not quit
o The risk of oral and throat cancer, bladder, kidney, and pancreatic cancer decreases
* 15 Years after quitting:
o The risk of coronary heart disease is equal to a nonsmoker's risk.

Just want to chime in with my encouragement to those that have decided to quit this dirty, expensive, habit.
Cheers!

Well done Wendy! Hopefully sharing it with people on here is helping, too. I think you need as much support as poss through this time, because it's t-o-u-g-h. :)
I gave up just before Christmas. And, erm, started again just after New Year. sh*t.
It really is hard, I found the mental side of it impossible. I just couldn't stop thinking about it, even if it was 'wow, I've gone X days without a cig', it was still completely dominating my thoughts most of the time and I think in the end that meant as soon as I went back to work, I found myself straight back at the 'smokers wall' at break/lunchtime.
So distractions are gooooood!
good luck, you can do this! |

Hey peeps!
Sorry I haven't been on in a while to keep you all updated but basically the news is....I'm still a NON SMOKER!!! hee hee
Doing pretty well apart from a couple of rough days where I could have argued with a rock! Irritability kind got hold of me :( But I'm okies.
Thinking of getting some herbal mixtures to help me out. Something like Bach's or Dr Vortel. Been checking it all out online so maybe they will help me chilllllllllll and take the edge off.
I have been keeping myself super busy all weekend, cooking, visiting family etc. So it's been good, however now I am dying with the cold and my throat is as raw as anything. But weirdly that means I don't crave any cigs hahaha.
Well that's all! Hope you are all well and to my fellow quitters....WELL DONE GUYS!! Keep it up, we can DO IT!!! :)
Wends x |
